Indian Audit and Accounts Department is the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. The offices of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department are headed by Accountants General who are responsible for the maintenance of Accounts as well as Audit of the Accounts of the State and other organisations.

The office of the Accountant General, Orissa is adjacent to the Secretariat building. This office moved from Ranchi to the office of Bhubaneswar on 4th May 1956. Prior to this, office of the Accountant General was functioning at Ranchi with two D.A.G offices. - one at Ranchi and another at Puri.

1. Office of the Accountant General (A&E) is headed by the Accountant General (A&E) and A.G is assisted by three Dy. Accountants General in the Main Office and one Dy. Accountant General (Works Accounts) at Puri. 1500 members in different cadres work in this office and cadre control of the Divisional Accountants who are posted in the Divisions of Public Works lies with the A.G.

This office is responsible for
(i) Preparation of the Monthly Civil Accounts and Yearly Finance Accounts and Appropriation Accounts of the Government of Orissa.
(ii) Maintenance of Provident Fund Account of the State Government Employees and the authorisation of their terminal benefits.
(iii) Authorisation of Pension of State Government Employees and Pay & Allowances of the highest dignitaries of the State including Governor, Council of Ministers, Judges of the High Court.
(v) Maintenance of the Long Term Advances like House Building Advance, Motor Car / Motor Cycle Advance.
(v) Providing technical guidance and supervision for audit of Panchyatiraj Institutions.
(vi) Undertaking of Treasury Inspection (161 no. of Treasuries / Sub-Treasuries) and preparation of Inspection Reports.
(vii) Supervision of the Public Works Accounts maintained at Branch Office, Puri.

(vii) In addition to this office looks after : -
(a) The smooth functioning of Departmental Canteen.
